The original pickguards were made out of tortoise pattern celluloid; a beautiful but troublesome material. Extremely flammable and the material desintegrates with time............... it can 'rot' or crumble, some fast and some slower. Also, it can warp in unpredictable ways after a while. Good quality celluloid material is extremely hard to find and very often not shipped by air because of the flammable nature of the material.
The New Vintage philosophy is to build on the past with modern experience; therefore all pickguards on the Commemorative guitars are made of acrylic, with better stiffness and resistance to warping than celluloid. No degrading over time. With beautiful swirled patterns, and like the originals, translucent!
