Commemorative Antonio de Torres
DS-150 CC  # 35816
'Recordando a Don Antonio de Torres'
This guitar is available after 23rd of June 2017

A true fusion guitar of 19th century classical artistry and 20th century jazz innovation, conceived and built in the 21st century.

In the year 2017 we celebrate the 200th birthday year of Antonio de Torres, founder of the classical guitar as we know it today (Almeria, June 13, 1817 – Almeria, November 19, 1892)
Daniel Slaman Guitars will contribute by organising a concert ‘Recordando a Don Antonio de Torres’ on Friday 23rd of June, 2017 in The Hague, Netherlands. Click here for info.

This guitar was inspired by the instruments built by 19th century guitar maker Antonio de Torres. Daniel decided to incorporate some of Torres' decorative elements into this "Recordando a Don Antonio de Torres" model as a tribute to the memory of the instruments and their maker. Some of the notable features include the thick, multi-band herringbone purfling on the back, which come together both at the heel and foot areas and even line the sides with the full herringbone inlay.

16 inch guitar with European spruce top. Spanish cypress solid sides and back. Three piece back arched with three braces, middle piece walnut, purfling in herringbone. Full herringbone inlays on top, back and sides. Ebony fingerboard with position markers in walnut, pearl and half-herringbone. Strong acoustic sound and clear, yet warm amplified character. Spanish cedar neck that makes the guitar sing and respond to the slightest touch. Half herringbone on the headstock as well. Charlie Christian Adjustable pickup, nickel plated vintage tailpiece in ES-250 style with jack output in the base. Bakelite volume and tone knobs. A true fusion guitar of 19th century classical artistry and 20th century jazz innovation, conceived and built in the 21st century.

The case is handmade by Daniel and features airline striped lacquered tweed outside and sheep leather lined inside. This leather, garnered from the free-range sheep of the Lüneburger heath, is a real rarity. By raising the sheep in a species-appropriate manner and tanning the hide with a rhubarb-based tincture, this leather is as smooth as silk and exceedingly tear-resistant. The case is made of lightweight birch plywood and at under 5kg is not heavier than any modern case.

Price Euro 9800,- (EU countries) , Euro 7800,-  (non-EU countries) with handmade (by Daniel) tweed airline stripe 'coffin' case, sheep leather lining inside
(the case is a unique one-off and will not be repeated because of the amount of effort, time and expense involved)
